What you are looking at here is an oil filter cut open and laid out. It was removed from a BMW 7 Series that had gone without an oil change for quite a long time.  We can see that what the oil filter has been filtering for the last 18,000 miles. The picture on the right is a close-up of what was about to go through the engines bearings in the very near future! We recommend all vehicle owners check their oil levels and condition regularly, and for those who aren’t sure, we’re always available to help.  Oil should be changed in accordance with the manufactures guidelines (usually once a year or every 10,000 miles) using a quality oil and filter preferably with a flush so the clean oil doesn’t go straight into a dirty engine!
